We moved our family to Wichita in March 2015 and have quickly settled into this wonderful community. For us, this move was a dream come true. Running has always been a huge part of our lives, Joel and I met in college (both running division 1 track and cross country for the University of Tulsa). After we finished college Joel started working part-time at his local running store, Fleet Feet Sports Tulsa. Joel knew immediately this was going to be his future. I started working in social work and completed grad school, MSW in Tulsa (OU- Tulsa). While in Tulsa we welcomed two kids, Azelle (now 5.5) and John (almost 4!).
We live in Riverside neighborhood of Wichita, and love the relaxed pace of life here. If we are not in the stores you’ll find us out and about supporting local races, running on the river trails and checking out all that Wichita has to offer!
Why Fleet Feet? Fleet Fleet is a national franchise, and the number one questions we tend to get is “Why Fleet Feet?” Our answer is simple, the true value of community building. Fleet Feet allows us to build a strong local community based on inclusion and acceptance while at the same time allowing access to a vast network of likeminded individuals throughout our country. Couple this with access to the best products and the best possible staff training to ensure a great experience based on best practices. We believe in this brand and its mission to provide access to fitness to everyone.
For Joel, his experience with running retail started in Ohio. Joel lived in a small rural town and whenever he needed gear would take the trip to the “big city” to get the best products and service. Throughout high school Joel excelled at running, but had many injuries. It wasn’t until becoming a customer of Fleet Feet that questions about training, injuries and concerns were asked. This ultimately led us down the path of store ownership.
My path is slightly different. Born with a congenital foot deformity I have no toes on my right foot. There have been where I have been unable to walk properly, let alone run. Despite that, running has provided me many opportunities. My fitness journey led to track and cross country as a kid and an eventual opportunity to come to the United States from New Zealand to run in college. What really motivates me is the transformative power of running, walking and fitness, how much of a positive impact working out can have in the lives of individuals and families. We are committed to helping and supporting people find fitness who never thought they could be a “runner” or “walker” and making fitness accessible to everyone. It’s just an incredible honor to help Wichitians reach their fitness goals through training groups and events.
Thanks for an incredible year, and cheers to a wonderful 2018!
Joel, Renine and your Fleet Feet Wichita team.
