Prairie Fire Half Marathon and 5km is this weekend and we will be at the Century 2 Expo Hall on Saturday from 9am – 5pm. Please note there is no race day packet pick up. Temperatures are forecasted to be warm and breezy. Considering the forecasted weather, we have a couple of tips to help you maximize your race.
Hydration – Start now! We recommend taking electrolytes before, during and after your race. Consider racing with a hand held bottle for all those miles in-between water stops. Nuun, pictured above is an electrolyte tablet you dissolve in water. We also have electrolyte tabs you can take during the race
Nutrition – If you have been training with nutrition, use what you have trained with. If you have not been taking nutrition, stop by and talk with us and we can help. We recommend taking nutrition (whether its gus, gels, chomps, sports beans) every 45minutes to assist with energy, fight dehydration, and help prevent cramping.
What to Wear – Moisture wicking technical material will help you stay dry and cooler. This includes your socks and hats! We also recommend to apply body glide anywhere that you might rub or chaff. Flip belts are a popular choice to carry your personal items and easily layer over or under your race outfit.
Trust in your Training – You have done the work, now have confidence in yourself! Try to get regular sleep and meals in the days leading up to your event. A little nervous energy is expected, this will settle down as you start your race. Remember to stick with your race plan and utilize the event pacers if appropriate.
Most of all, have fun! Enjoy the event you have trained so hard for. S
